Roland Scharrer

Roland Scharrer is currently the Group Chief Data & Emerging Technologies Officer at AXA. Based in Paris, Roland oversees vision, strategy, investments, implementation, and governance on Data/AI, digital transformation, and emerging technologies (IoT, Geospatial, High-Performance/Quantum Computing, Web3/Metaverse, Blockchain/Crypto, Digital Twins, etc.). He leads 200+ inspiring minds in Paris, London, Lausanne, Barcelona, Singapore, and Palo Alto leveraging responsibly data and technology at scale which have the potential to disrupt the insurance business model and provide opportunities to shape future businesses in co-creation and collaboration with AXA entities and strategic partners around the world. 

Coming from a diverse background in natural sciences, computer science, statistics, social sciences and business administration, Roland gained extensive experience in empowering interdisciplinary engagements leveraging various domains and mediating between disciplines and their mostly different mindsets in a collaborative way. In that sense, he serves as an advisor to a variety of venture capital funds, startups, and NGOs.

Prior to AXA, Roland was Chief Data Scientist at Capgemini Consulting (now Capgemini Invent) in Germany, focusing on the digital transformation in Automotive and Financial Services. He studied among others at ESADE Barcelona, IMD Lausanne and HPI Berlin and holds a MS in Computer Engineering, a MS in Business Information Systems, and an Executive MBA.
